Dia de los Dulces show at Art From Scrap

Here we are..yo, Syd and Colleen in front of our altar..

Such a fun evening at our show opening last Friday! We set up the show and the staff at AFS did some colorful decorating. We made a Day of the Dead altar to share with visitors and had live ukelele music for the entire evening.

These are some of the pieces that I made for the show. We were all busy for the month after our return from France getting ready and creating new work.

We all decorated sugar skulls that were sold to benefit AFS.

Friends and family came to join in the fun...

Art director, Mary Price, center, dressed in her finest Frida attire and organized the best show ever.

Thank you everyone for joining us for the opening on Friday!

Our time in Paris

After our wonderful workshop with Jessie we spent about a week in Paris. This time we had a little apartment in the Latin Quarter. This modern stained glass window was in a very old church right down the street from us. We explored the inside on our first day there.

St. Therese

Further on we walked by Notre Dame and went inside on another day.

Fun little shops with vintage goods awaited us...

We found our way to "Merci" an interesting store with 2 restaurants where we had lunch before looking around.

We made a point to have a special meal at Angelina this trip, complete with dessert and their famous hot chocolate. Delicious!

Waiting our turn...

A day trip to Montmartre where we climbed the hill to the church and had some time for shopping.

so many things to look at before lunch and checking out the artists and their paintings.

We decided to take a tour bus to see Monet's Garden and home in Giverny in Normandy.

A special treat it was! The garden was still in bloom in September with so many gorgeous flowers as we followed the paths through the garden to his home. We visited each room and just had enough time to walk around the water lily ponds that Monet loved to paint.

Just a little taste of our time there. There were more adventures..visiting chocolate shops, Bon Marche, the Tuillerie Gardens, a special candy store with delights from each province of France, and the famous French flea market to name a few.

Fun at French General and the Arts Crawl

On Saturday I drove on down to Los Angeles to the wonderful shop called French General on Riverside Drive to take a needle felting workshop with Evelyn. I've done a little needle felting but always wanted to try and make a little animal.  The owl workshop caught my eye and I had to go!
The owl on the left is Evelyn's finished one and the one on the right is my unfinished one. Hope to finish it up soon.

Everyone working away on their owls...

so much to take in...every where you look there is something to see...

that delights the eye...

and sense of touch...

and spirit.

A heaven for stitchers...

and textile lovers...

Molly cuts fabric with care.

Got a photo with Evelyn and her owl. She creates many felted creatures including, hedgehogs, cats, sheep, and will do a heart workshop for Valentine's day. A great workshop and loved meeting the Meng sisters, Kaari and Molly who created this wonderful space.

Since I was in LA I decided to drive over to Pasadena and check out the Day of the Dead show at the Folk Tree on Fair Oaks. Lots of fun things to see and I stocked up on some small paper flowers that I needed for our upcoming show at Art From Scrap next week.

Next stop I headed to South Pasadena, my home town. I heard that there was an Arts Crawl with lots of open galleries, music and a food truck, so off I went.
First stop was the Fremont Gallery and the art of Sonya Fe.

Then on to some fun shops...this one is called ETC. , filled with lots of fun antiques, steiff animals, dolls and other fun stuff.

Food truck...

and La Monarca Bakery where I stopped for some Mexican hot chocolate before heading home.
