Being open....

This sand castle first caught my eye today on my beach walk....the ocean and high tide were just beginning to take it away.....I looked up towards the cliffs and it looked like the same creators of this castle had made a tiny village with driftwood, rocks, and seaweed. I had to go take a closer look. It was really amazing and I'm afraid the photos won't do it justice, but it was like a deserted encampment had just been abandoned and the tiny inhabitants wandered away.

And on my walk I met this cool lady who let me photograph her beautiful jewelry from New Mexico, thanks, Carolyn! She went up to see the tiny village too....
And walking back to the car I got distracted by a group of kids and adults working on some wonderful Chumash Tule boats. Stephen Franco was demonstrating how the boats were made and told me of some wonderful mosaic projects that are coming up that will tell the Chumash history and placed near West Beach. I hope to get involved in this community art work! It turned out that I knew Stephen's uncle Sespe years ago. We talked about the need for everyone to come together to help heal the Earth....and that felt good!

Love those pictures of the sand village. Love even more that people took the time to build it. Thank you whoever you are and you, Mary for photographing it for us.

What a magical walk! The village and photos are terrific. What patience. In one photo it looks like there is a paper with writing set up to read. Did you catch what it said by chance? The tribal reed canoes are wonderful too. He has a lovely smile. A day full of special encounters. Perfect!

I'm so glad you photographed these, Mary. I love beach art - the taking time to create something magical that will surely be washed away. There's something so special and giving about that act.
