New bird...

Hooked this bright colored bird for a shop order....still need to finish her up...make legs, stuff, etc.
I got in my beach walk yesterday after dropping Justin off at Art from Scrap. Picked up these rocks. The strange one on the right looked like a crow to me!

Cleaning house

We were cleaning out our storeroom today and I came across this mosaic wooden bowl that I made a few years ago. I wonder if it would work for a bird bath...? The raccoons knocked the top off of our ceramic bird bath and broke it and I've been looking for the right top for weeks now.

The artgirls gathered once again for a great beach day at Refugio. We got on our boogie boards and caught a few waves....the ocean was cool and refreshing. We were joined by Omega and her ocean loving daughter, Valkyrie , 16 mo., in the cutest pink camo bikini I've ever seen.

Felt Fun

I thought I would make some felt vessels today and I did make one little one that ended up fitting right into a larger one that I made a while back.
This is the little one I made. Then I got distracted by all the beautiful roving I collected and started on some fiber jewelry projects. I made about 8 necklaces that still need more work, but I had fun playing with the felt and letting it dry out on the honeysuckle vines on our deck.
Some of this colorful roving is from the wool store in Multnomah Village near Portland, Oregon called Northwest Wools and some from my felter friend in Australia, Elizabeth Armstrong.

Fun at Art From Scrap Auction & Fundraiser

Mary Price and Syd dressed up for their photo shoot...
Bob DeBris brings costumes for the guests to dress up in and takes their photos for souvenirs of the fun evening...
Martin and Melissa, two artist friends celebrate their anniversary in proper attire...
another group camps it up...
In Santa Barbara we don't have to wait for Halloween to "dress up"!

Helene Schneider, city councilwoman and a member of the AFS board of directors dressed up and ready for their portrait. Helene is running for Mayor of Santa Barbara!
Here I am with Helene, and Kathy Snow before their photo shoot..
Penny with Syd in the background. Penny went all out with her "Circle" attire including a great button necklace. The theme of the art show this year was Circle and we had to use a piece from Art From Scrap's box in our piece. The art pieces are in a silent auction that benefits the non-profit's work in the community. It's always a fun community event for a great cause.
Afterwards we headed off to Paseo Nuevo for a salad and lemonade...some of the bright Petunias that decorate the balcony above the mall.

I''m not much of a "mall person" but Santa Barbara managed to create a nice tasteful one downtown that doesn't look like a mall. Lots of Spanish tile and flowers and vines and iron work make it a pleasant place to shop and dine.

And this is the "before" shot of ARt From Scrap where the party took place. This is Aaron and my son Justin cleaning up the parking lot on Saturday. The are required to do 60 hours of community volunteer work for high school graduation and happily Justin is working here. I get to search for interesting fabric when I drop him off....as if I needed more fabric, but...well, you know how it is...

Summer time....

Our first sunflower is blooming and that's always fun. About 6 more are getting ready but have a ways to go yet.
New bird I hooked for a store called "Muse" in St. Helena that I hope to deliver some things to on our way to Oregon in August.

Lookin' for waves....

Colleen, Syd and I had fun riding our boogie boards at Refugio Beach.

Ready, set, go! The waves were small but we still had fun! Can't wait for next week.

Beach rocks!

My latest little collection of beach rocks from my walk on Saturday at Hendry's.
And these are photos of what you can do with all those rocks you collect! I covered all three cement steps that my husband made with beach rocks and a few pieces of clam shell. Not the most beautiful job in the world, but much better to look at than plain ole cement.

A bunch of unrelated stuff...

I finished up these two fabric dolls...may put them in my Etsy shop...I sent Tara a black kittie one last week for her doll collection.
And here is where I went yesterday for a walk and dip in the ocean. It felt sooo good to cool down-the water is 61 degrees! While I was happily hanging out in the water near the pier a little seal head popped up and looked at me! I wonder if it heard me singing to myself?
Thursday we had our family dinner out. I picked CPK- it's easy to get to and the food is good and fresh and light. I walked over to Imagine to look in their windows which are always fun and filled with new things. This cool basket made from recycled magazines caught my eye as well as....
these funny ceramic birds....
and these hanging ceramic sea urchins...at least I think that's what they are....fun window shopping.
and this is what the kitties do when I'm not looking! Nap on my unfinished hooked rug!

Rug hooking again....

This is the fun tote bag that we received from Teesha at artfiberfest. I sewed some of the pins that were traded and given to me onto the front.
And I am back at work on this rug with all the fun houses and flowers to hook. Still a long way to go....I decided to hook some of the background so I could see how it will look.

A Summer treat...

I made this berry crisp for my boys using blackberries and raspberries. Topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream-Yum! Tonight some fresh white corn and maybe bar-be-que.
Justin and I went down to Art From Scrap on Saturday to see the Circles show that I'm in with most of my friends. Lots of fun stuff. Above is Susan Buchanen's piece-she has 2 bids already!
More pieces from the Circle show...Penny's is the lower center piece with RED...love it!
Carol Kemp and Colleen Darling's pieces-upper left and center, more fun stuff!
This one is called "Fire Story" and is made from stuff scavenged from the latest fire.

A few things...

Lori Seavey-Christian brought these wonderful embroideries to Artfiberfest for us to purchase.
They are from the Wodaabe tribe in Africa and they sell their work to provide some of the bare necessities of life. Lori also collected embroidery thread to send to the Wodaabe to help support their stitching. I bought four pieces similar to the ones above....love the fun colors and tiny stitches. I think she still has some to sell....ask her...her blog: http://artand play.blogspot.com/

Hooked this little pumpkin the other night just because I wanted to get hooking again! I still am working on my big piece "Flowerbox" but wanted something simple to get me going again.
And this great little book just arrived from Amazon. Very Inspiring!
And my copy of STUFFED! arrived and I have not 5, but 1 piece in there....the very last one...my little bug pin cushion...
